Ethos of Care

Each resident is valued as a unique individual, shaped by their own life experiences, personal preferences, and sense of dignity. Care plans are thoughtfully tailored to suit their specific needs, interests, and abilities. Our team is committed to building genuine, compassionate relationships with residents and their families, nurturing a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

Partnership Care

Care at The Fern Dean will be delivered on a partnership basis where residents’ families, the team at the Fern Dean and health care experts come together to provide the best for our residents. You can be confident that your loved ones happiness and well being is our focus everyday. Our highly experienced team will care for your loved one to the highest standards and will take the time to get to know and understand exactly how they like things to be.

At The Fern Dean we believe in listening to and acting on feedback from our residents and our residents families. The team at The Fern Dean are determined to provide the very best for our residents and we consider ongoing feedback essential to achieving this. As with all feedback people are often more comfortable sharing their experience if their feedback is given and reported anonymously.

Our research is carried out by Cemplicity. We check in with residents and families on several occasions during their time with us to ensure their experiences with us as The Four Ferns are captured. The information that is shared is sent directly to Cemplicity who include that information with the feedback from our other residents. We receive the feedback anonymously but in a way that we can take actions if needed.

Dementia Care

We offer programmes thoughtfully designed to support people living with dementia. Our approach focuses on each person’s strengths and retained abilities, rather than what may have been lost. The individual, not the diagnosis, remains at the heart of all care and activities. Sonas therapy is also provided where appropriate to enhance wellbeing and engagement.

The Linden Lodge Dementia Suite at The Fern Dean has been especially developed and designed to provide a calmer, supportive and enabling home for residents living with dementia.

Services & Therapies

At The Fern Dean, resident care is supported by a multidisciplinary team of experienced healthcare professionals. This includes Nurses, GPs, a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Therapist, Tissue Viability Nurse, and Dietitian.

Residents also benefit from a full range of additional services, including pharmacy, chiropody, optical and dental care, mobile X-ray facilities, and 24-hour on-call medical cover for added reassurance and continuity of care.

Inhouse GP Service

Residents of The Fern Dean  have access to our inhouse GP and his team.

Doctor Geraint Warlow MB BCh (Wales) BSc (Wales) PGDip (Warwick) MRCGP is the clinical lead for the GP service which is the only Irish GP clinic dedicated to residents of nursing homes.

A balanced and tailored approach to care is taken. What is right for one resident, may not be right for the next. The team are here to listen to everyone – firstly the residents but also those around them to find the right path and anticipate and work through some of the challenges ahead.

Doctor Geraint Warlow has a keen interest in complex care and medicine for the elderly.

Nurse Sarah Toland RN (TCD) RNP works alongside Dr Geraint Warlow and has worked in general practice for 14 years. She provides chronic disease care including diabetes, asthma and COPD. Sarah coordinates the in-house bone health service and is a registered nurse prescriber.

Infection Control
